Over 200 scholars came together on April 21, 2012 in TARC Fieldhouse to present their unique, innovative, and creative projects. The Celebration of Scholars has always drawn a diverse group of scholars, which include scholars from biology to creative writing, and mathematics to graphic design. Although the end result of all scholars’ research is a beautiful poster rendering of their work, the process of paring down the project into a visual presentation is different. The juxtaposition of posters with titles such “Neural developmental differences in the Chick After Exposure to Monosodium Glutamate” from Benjamin Kober, ’13, against presentation titled “The Use of Witchcraft in Shakespeare’s Macbeth: Women, Power, and Misogyny” by Anne Koenings, ’12, show the breadth of scholarship at Carthage College.
The sense of local, national, and international community and consciousness was highlighted through countless projects. Bree McMahon’s, ’12, “Forever Wisconsin; Visual Homage to the Dairy State” was a presentation of her collection of postcards that immortalizes Wisconsin’s beauty and cultural soul. Associate Professor of Modern Language, Isabel Rivero-Vilá, presented research on “Intercultural Presentations through Francophone Cinema”. This presentation focused on the authentic cultural contexts from Francophone cinema and language acquisition. Celebration of Scholars recognizes the time and effort spent in research and creative processes, but also highlights the cultural consciousness of the Carthage community.
