Senior Farewell: Vincenzo Chimera
Looking back on my time at Carthage, I am grateful for the time I spent with The Current newspaper. I began during my freshman year when I first wrote the point counterpoint with my brother Carmelo. This column challenged me to closely analyze current political issues and construct sound arguments to support certain positions. I feel my writing and critical thinking has improved dramatically as a result.
This newspaper offers these types of benefits to everyone who gets involved. It offers room for personal growth but most importantly it teaches responsibility. Almost every aspect of this paper comes directly from the students, from the writers to the editors and production designers. Not surprisingly, every year I have been with the paper it has improved dramatically over the course of the school year.
I have no doubt that this paper will continue to improve and set a high standard for quality. As I leave this college behind I encourage the entire Carthage Community to read this paper and appreciate what it has to offer. In particular I hope students will follow national and world political events brought to light in this paper. It is far too easy to look at current problems and conclude that no progress will take place. This cynicism is dangerous and hurts our entire society. Cynicism breeds disillusionment and a self-fulfilling prophecy of negativity. Please resist this urge and always seek to think clearly about current issues.
